Rededication of the Civil War Monument at the Rochester Cemetery
Rochester has always been devoted to those who have served to protect our nation. This year we have a special opportunity to renew that resolve for the soldiers who fought to save our flag and our nation during the Civil War.
Many of you have probably seen the large Civil War Monument in the cemetery at the top of the hill next to our flag. That memorial was erected by Henry A. Russell, a member of one of our pioneer families. He did this in memory of those who struggled to keep our union whole; this was a bequest in his last will and testament.
This memorial has stood for a hundred years, and the Rochester Cemetery Company will be rededicating the monument at this year's cemetery service. There will be readings, a wreath laying and Civil War reenactors. This historical celebration will take place at the Rochester Cemetery at noon on Monday, May 25th.
We look forward to you joining us for this special tribute.
