Property Taxes

Payments

Property tax bills are mailed to property owners in December. Taxes can be paid in full to the Village of Rochester Treasurer on or before January 31st. Alternately, taxes can be paid in two installments without penalty or interest as long as the 1st installment amount is met. In this case, the first installment is due to the Village of Rochester Treasurer by January 31, and the second installment is due to the Racine County Treasurer by July 31.

Several options are available for making property tax payments:

1. Pay Online by Credit Card or Electronic Check

Note: The following service fees apply for online payment options: $.25 cents for E-Checks and 2.20% of the transaction amount for credit card payments

To Search for your tax bill using this payment record, choose "Village of Rochester" from the drop-down list under "Municipality" on the initial search screen, then enter your last name OR the parcel ID number found on your tax bill in the appropriate field. Then click "Find Now".

A list of matching property records will appear. To access the information specific to your property, click on the red parcel number to the left of the owner name and site address that matches the property you are searching for.

A "Property Summary" page appears showing additional information on the property. About half-way down the page, you will see another drop-down menu titled "Select Detail".  From the drop-down menu, choose "Taxes".

Additional information will appear displaying tax bill and tax payment history.  Towards the bottom of the screen, choose the red “Pay Taxes” link to proceed to a Shopping Cart dialog window. Enter the amount of the payment next to the parcel and click PAY.

You will receive a pop-up warning that you are leaving the county website. Click OK to continue or Cancel to return to the shopping cart. When you complete the payment process, a receipt will generated for you to print or save to your computer’s hard drive.

NOTE: If multiple parcels with the same mailing address are found, you can add them to the shopping cart by clicking the “Add to cart” link.

2. By Mail

Please detach the appropriate payment stub from your tax bill and mail it with your check to the address on the stub.  All payments will be credited on the date received. Payments postmarked on or before December 31 will be recorded as being paid in 2023, any payments postmarked January 1 or after will be recorded as being paid in 2024. Should questions of delinquency arise; the date of the postmark by the U.S. Postal Service will be deemed final, not the date on the check. For your security and ours, please do not send cash.

Please check the legibility and accuracy when writing out personal check(s). We may not be able to process your payment if the check amount is incorrect or not legible. Also, please remember to endorse any escrow checks. Escrow checks that aren’t endorsed or signed will be returned.

3. In Person / Dropbox
Payments can be made in person at the Rochester Village Hall, 300 W. Spring Street, during posted office hours.

Alternately, place your payment and payment stub in the dropbox located right outside the front door at the Village Hall. The dropbox is checked multiple times daily and payments deposited there will be posted by the next business day. If you would like a receipt mailed to you, please include a large self-addressed postage paid envelope. Otherwise, you can access and print your own receipt online after the payment is posted using Racine County's "My Tax Bill" application.

My Tax Bill

Use Racine County's "My Tax Bill" application to check the status of a property tax payment, print a copy of your tax bill, or print a copy of your property tax payment receipt.

Lottery Tax Credit

You are entitled to a lottery credit on your property taxes if, as of January 1st of the year of the tax bill, you were the owner of the property and it was used as your primary residence. Even if the lottery credit has been on your bill in the past, please check annually to make sure it is listed. Only you know if you are entitled to the credit.

The Lottery & Gambling Credit can be administered through the State of Wisconsin, the County Treasurer and/or the Village Treasurer depending on what time of the year you claim it. Before tax bills are printed, you can direct a claim form to the County Treasurer. This will ensure the credit is reflected on your bill. After tax bills are printed and before the first installment is due, you can submit a claim form to the local municipal treasurer. The credit can then be given during tax collection.

Note: Rental properties are not eligible for credits.
